When: Monday, April 3rd through Friday, April 28th 2017
Where: Williams Intermediate
Activity: Williams Intermediate DFYIT members will be displaying their knowledge of Alcohol Awareness and the dangers of underage drinking during Alcohol Awareness Month. DFYIT members will be participating in reading daily alcohol related drug facts during the morning announcements. On Friday, April 21st, CADS staff and DFYIT members will hold a booth in cafeteria and utilize drunk-googles to demonstrate to students the effects of being intoxicated all while providing a safe environment. Students will participate in everyday activities such as tossing a ball, walking a straight line, writing their name and simply giving a high-five. Prior to using the goggles students will have to demonstrate how to refuse drinking alcohol using a variety of refusal skills that will be posted at the booth.

Where: Bettendorf Middle
Activity: For this years’ Alcohol Awareness Month, Bettendorf Middle School’s DFYIT members will be working on learning about the harm and dangers of alcohol as well as coming up with refusal strategies to teach their peers. Bettendorf Middle School will receive the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test during their lunch period and participate in Facts about Alcohol Trivia. This will allow Bettendorf Middle School to learn more about how the use of alcohol can impact their lives and the lives of others. Educating important refusal strategies will also help students avoid the peer pressures of drinking and prepare them for future healthy decision making.

Where: All Saints Catholic School
Activity: All Saint’s DFYIT club members are going to spend the month of April not only learning more about the dangers of alcohol, but are going to spread their knowledge with their school. DFYIT members will be making weekly announcements that contain facts and statistics about alcohol. DFYIT club members will also be holding a booth during their lunch time on April 28th to celebrate the end of Alcohol Awareness Month. During this booth, DFYIT members will encourage their classmates to participate in activities that will demonstrate the dangers of drinking. This will include wearing drunk- goggles while completing tasks such as walking, balancing, and tossing a ball into a basket. Students will also be able to answer trivia questions developed by DFYIT members to ask their classmates.

Where: Sudlow Intermediate School

Activity: Williams Intermediate DFYIT members will be displaying their knowledge of Alcohol Awareness and the dangers of underage drinking during Alcohol Awareness Month. DFYIT members will be participating in reading daily alcohol related drug facts during the morning announcements. On Fridays in April, students will have the opportunity to take part in ‘Showing Your True Colors’. Each Friday students will be encouraged to wear a different color in appreciation for Alcohol Awareness Month. On Friday April 14th, DFYIT members will wear all black to demonstrate the effects alcohol can have within our community. Students wearing black will act as if they aren’t there that day. While walking in halls or at lunch they will demonstrate that alcohol can easily take away our friends and family and that the effects it has are real.
