Here at CADS, we offer a variety of programs and services for both addiction prevention and treatment. In this blog post we wanted to give you a more in-depth look into all that we do here, how we do it and what you and the community can do to support our efforts.
The CADS Prevention Department uses a variety of state-funded grants through the Iowa Department of Public Health to operate. These grants allow us to offer programs that cover tobacco, marijuana, prescription drugs, alcohol and problem gambling. We offer several different programs and presentations to the Scott County community including information dissemination, PowerPoint presentations on specific topics, evidence-based curriculums as well as taking part in community health fairs. It is important for the community to educate themselves and learn the truth about particular substances and share accurate information to help with prevention. Individuals can also join our coalition, the Quad Cities Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (QCSAPC).
Individuals interested in receiving services should come to one of our outpatient locations to get a substance evaluation, all of these locations offer first come first serve walk-in evaluations. The evaluation will determine what level of care the client is clinically appropriate for. After this has been determined, an admissions appointment is set up to help get the client started in receiving their treatment services. Services typically involve group counseling, individual counseling, treatment planning and case management. Treatment is always catered to meet the individuals’ needs.
CADS offers support through every level of care during a client’s recovery process. We do this by offering structure, a safe place and education to support recovery and prevent relapse. We also make referrals to agencies in our communities that can continue to support our clients once they leave our services. The community can help us in our mission by working to remove the stigmas relating to substance abuse and mental health. We want our clients to feel comfortable asking for help.
People also need to educate themselves about substance abuse and how it impacts the entire family, not just the individual. Friends and families of individuals struggling with substance abuse need to learn what resources are available within the community so that they can support their loved ones in need.
