Spread the Word to End Stigmas

April 11, 2022

Alcohol Awareness Month is a national observance designed by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) to raise awareness as well as increase outreach efforts and public education regarding the dangerous impacts of alcoholism and other issues related to alcohol abuse.

A major aspect of Alcohol Awareness Month is addressing the stigmas associated with alcoholism and substance abuse. At CADS, we understand that substance abuse can happen to anyone at any age. That is why we are working to raise awareness in our community to help end harmful stigmas surrounding substance abuse and alcoholism as well as helping those who are struggling to get the support and treatment needed to start their journey to recovery.

How You Can Help

1. Assess personal drinking habits.

If you are concerned about your personal drinking habits, call us at (563) 326-1150. Our compassionate staff creates a safe space for you to start your recovery, learn more about substance abuse issues and receive support and treatment catered to your individual needs. Or take our quick online self-assessment to identify if you are at risk.

2. Watch out for the warning signs.

Someone who may be struggling with alcoholism may exhibit these warning signs:

  • Memory loss or blackouts from drinking
  • Accidents or injuries while drinking
  • Drinking even though there are physical conditions that can be worsened by drinking
  • Alcohol use interferes with work, school or other activities
  • Trouble controlling how much they drink
  • Someone trying to conceal their drinking habits
  • Alcohol becomes a focal point in their life

If any of this sounds familiar, reach out to CADS for support and treatment services.

3. Spread the Word

It’s important to let those who may be struggling know that there are resources and help available.

  • Spread the word. Share resources and information on social media during Alcohol Awareness Month.
  • Educate your loved ones. Start a dialogue with your friends and family about healthy drinking habits and warning signs of alcoholism.
  • Educate yourself and others. Learn, use and discuss healthy, positive coping mechanisms to avoid problem drinking.
  • Get involved. Attend community educational programs to learn more about local substance abuse issues and discover valuable community resources, prevention techniques and more.
  • Discuss with your place of employment about booking CADS for professional development and training opportunities about our programs and services, alcoholism and substance abuse, the effects of usage in the workplace and more.
