Passing of a Dear Colleague

May 3, 2017

Dear Colleague,

Sobriety is not an anchor, it’s a pair of wings!  - Sobercourage.com

“Let no one be discouraged by the belief there is nothing one person can do against the enormous array of the world’s ills, misery, ignorance, and violence.  Few will have the greatness to bend history.  But each of us can work to change a small portion of events.  And in the total of all those acts will be written the history of generation.”  -Robert F. Kennedy

I am in awe of a staff member that we lost today because his compassion, dedication, empathy, and commitment to our clients was unmatched.

Al Stouffer had 32 years at the CENTER. During his time he had seen many CHANGES.  Changes include going from an agency that worked on a budget of $500,000 dollars per year to a multimillion dollar budget, from 38 employees to 95 plus employees, and to an agency that serves over 2,300 clients per year. During the course of his career, he had experienced peers that are dedicated to helping people change and helping the organization grow. Al had always expressed that he was proud to be a member of the CENTER’s team, and was dedicated to continuing to assist clients in meeting their needs. Al had watched the CENTER become a leader in the community in developing relationships that led to bettering the community as a whole. “Life with the CENTER has improved my life as I am more aware of my own strengths and abilities and my needs”, Al Stouffer. As the CENTER continues to grow as a team, Al always hoped to pass on to others the happiness that he has experienced with this organization, and  have faith that others will experience the growth that is available through working with the clients that we work with.

We knew him as a very sensitive man who loved being a help to others. Al was also a man’s man and people were very comfortable around him. He would have liked people to think he was a grizzly bear but he was actually a teddy bear.
