CADS and Robert Young Center Announce Intent to Affiliate

March 29, 2017

Affiliation will offer new resources for Robert Young Center and CADS patients

Rock Island, IL – (March 29) – The Boards of Directors of Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc. (CADS) and Robert Young Center (RYC) are entering into exclusive negotiations to enhance and advance mental health care and substance abuse and rehabilitation services throughout the Quad Cities. The organizations have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to negotiate an agreement to make CADS an affiliate of Robert Young Center which is a subsidiary of UnityPoint Health – Trinity. The affiliation will help develop more integrated models of care across the continuum, treating the whole patient – mind, body, and spirit – to achieve improved patient outcomes and better community health.

This Letter of Intent marks a significant step toward a strategic affiliation between the organizations. It allows the organizations to negotiate the terms of an affiliation and reflects a shared intent to pursue a definitive agreement in a timely fashion. The parties will now enter exclusive negotiations to finalize an agreement.

"This decision reflects the Board’s desire to position CADS for long-term success and maintain its status as a vital community provider of substance abuse and rehabilitation services," said Dr. Joe Cowley, CADS President & CEO. "In a challenging health care landscape, becoming part of a strong regional health system like UnityPoint Health – Trinity, which shares our values and invests in community organizations like ours, will help further enhance and ensure the long-term viability of quality care for people in the Quad Cities region."

The decision to pursue an affiliation with Robert Young Center was made by the CADS Board of Directors to enhance the organization’s ability to serve the community. The search centered on finding a partner with a shared recognition of the value of behavioral health care being delivered by friends and neighbors at the local level.

CADS and Robert Young Center are both accredited, non-profit organizations that share a rich tradition and long-standing commitment to providing the highest level of care. Since 1980, CADS has been dedicated to the prevention, education, and treatment of addictions, substance abuse, and other disorders related to the harmful use of alcohol and drugs. Robert Young Center is a nationally recognized leader in community-based behavioral health care services across the care continuum. UnityPoint Health is one of the nation’s most integrated health systems with a proven track record of working with community organizations in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.

"We are excited to partner with Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc., and have a great deal of respect for the long tradition of care they have in the community," said Dennis Duke, President of Robert Young Center. "Our two organizations share similar missions and values. This partnership will enhance the quality, access and value of mental health care and substance abuse services in the Quad Cities region."

"An affiliation between CADS and Robert Young Center will be positive for the entire area," said UnityPoint Health – Trinity President & CEO Rick Seidler. "Enhancing access to behavioral health care, specialists and substance abuse services will benefit the people and communities in our region."

When finalized, this agreement will bring together both organizations’ networks of providers and specialists to provide greater access to mental health care and substance abuse services.

"This is an exciting step forward for CADS and the people we are privileged to serve every day," said Dr. Joe Cowley, CADS President & CEO. "Together with Robert Young Center, we have an opportunity to enhance patient care, expand access and services and provide greater continuity of care. The real value of our services has always been people - the dedicated mental health professionals, drug counselors and volunteers who work so hard every day to provide personal care our community can trust."

Formal discussions will start immediately and it is anticipated that the affiliation will be finalized later this summer. To learn more, visit unitypoint.org/quadcities.
